Wanted: Triathlete

So here's the thing. Eric and I do everything together, always have. We just don't understand the time alone concept. If we have hobbies we have them together, some may be my thing, while others are his thing, but we just don't do stuff separate. Some people may think that's crazy. We don't, we like it, LOTS. So the thing I think I am struggling with most about my triathlon obsession is the comment Eric made when he finally gaged my interst level had gone beyond just crazy-talk....

I'll NEVER do that.

Never, really, NEVER??? To put NEVER into perspective you have to understand that following our first marathon in 2005, Eric was NEVER going to run another marathon again. And I'm pretty sure those words or something very similar were also spewed from his lips following marathons 2-9. The funny thing is that he just sent me a text confirming the marathon he is registered for in January is number 10 and in the text he refers to himself as a non-runner. Hmmm, a non-runner looking for completion of his 10th marathon in a few short weeks, sounds like somewhat of a runner to me. So, I can't quite tell if this is a NEVER I can believe in or one I should challenge. Given his track record, I don't think I'm done trying for a training partner just yet.

What I do know is this, I would be a lot less afraid of the triathlon unknown if he wanted to jump into this with me. We always figure it out together, and while I'm positive he will be nothing but super supportive of me in triathlon, I just wish I had him to train with and bounce ideas off of the way I have with running!

So Eric, what do you say, do you want to be my triathlon training partner??? Anyone else interested?

Maybe Aspen could join you. She's pretty good at swimming and running, but you might have to work with her on the biking portion and you might have to take a lot of breaks because she's like 97 in dog years.

Boy, I am going to have to think about my below pros and cons list a little more before I commit. You know me, if I commit, there is no turning back. Let's go through my pros and cons list:

Pros:
1) Get to spend time with you
2) Get to spend time with you3) " "

Cons:
1) Don't think I can rock the wetsuit like you.
2) Open water swimming with no place to rest sounds scary.
3) Not sure if they make non-speedo swimming/running/biking shorts.
4) Did I mention the swimming in open water thing worries me?

Don't give up working on me though. I have a tough time saying no to you. I never in a million years thought I would run a single marathon, but I am actually glad you talked me into it.

So how deep is the water for the triathlon? You can swim in 4-5 feet and then be able to stand up if somebody swims up your back.
What's the water temperature?
Where will the event be held?
Now remember, I'm not asking this as someone who will compete, but maybe I can hold Avery & Camden while you do. Especially if Eric will be wearing a speedo, I want to be there with my camera. :)

I will have to say I am not at all interested in being your training partner way to much swimming, biking, and running for my taste!

I think you will talk Eric into this in time! I will come watch and cheer you both on!!

Most of the triathlons are held in the summer. I haven't decided which one I will do first, but there are several around the Houston area to chose from. Since I don't yet have a bike, let alone a way to transport it somewhere, I'm sure I'll pick a local one. Most of the swims are in open water, such as lakes or the ocean, but I do have my eye on a YMCA one with a pool swim, I may have to start there. So...I guess it looks like I will have to expand my search for a training companion, but I'm glad to hear I may have some fans to get me through it, thanks!!

Dad, you just made me realize I need to add one more item to the "cons" list:

5) Having someone snap a revealing picture of me coming out of cold water in a speedo.

That would be serious blackmail material.
